Moodpath is an interactive, app-based screening, created to recognize symptoms of depression. Over the course of 14 days the user answers 3 daily sets of questions about his well-being. Afterwards, he will receive a thorough evaluation of his mental health, telling him if he is affected by symptoms of depression. This evaluation includes a recommendation for action and a doctor’s letter.
Everyone who feels emotionally burdened and is worried about suffering from clinical depression.
Yes. Burnout is not considered as an autonomous illness by medical professionals. A burnout is an additional diagnosis that is frequently made in combination with depression. Furthermore, a burnout in its final stages is almost indistinguishable from depression. The additional diagnosis of a burnout often serves to explain a profound exhaustion. Moodpath is suited for anyone who feels burnt out and deeply exhausted.
No. A depression can be clearly distinguished from depressed state. In order to diagnose a clinical depression, a minimum number of symptoms of depression must be present for at least two weeks. During a depressed state the patient might suffer from one or two of these symptoms. That alone should not be a cause for concern – after all, everyone is familiar with feeling low-spirited or sad from time to time. Usually, a depressed state ends after a short time.
A depression is not a snapshot. The criteria for diagnosing a depression are clearly defined in the ICD-10, the International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems. In order to diagnose a depression, a certain combination and number of symptoms must be present for at least 14 days.
No. Moodpath does not give a diagnosis after the self-screening. A diagnosis can only be given by a doctor or psychotherapist. You will receive a profound evaluation of your symptoms of depression and you will be able to view the development of your mood. The collected data can be immensely helpful for a doctor or psychotherapist when giving a diagnosis.
The questions are about your physical and mental well-being. On the one hand, you will get questions that are explicitly asking about the symptoms of a depression. On the other hand, Moodpath will ask you about symptoms that frequently accompany a depression and symptoms that can indicate related illnesses.
Variations according to the time of day are typical for a depression. In order to capture the development of your mood as precisely as possible, Moodpath asks about your well-being at three different times of the day.
If you enable push notifications, you will receive updates when new sets of questions are available. This will help you to avoid missing questions. Should you still miss a question at some point, don’t worry! The Moodpath algorithm adapts to the way you answer the questions. If you miss important questions, they will be integrated into other sets of questions. If questions are missed multiple times, the screening period will be extended for several days. Regardless, make sure to miss as few questions as possible to allow an evaluation.
Your information is anonymous and will not be passed on to third parties. You are not required to sign up via Facebook and you don’t need to provide an email address. You will receive an anonymous user ID that only Moodpath can see. Moodpath cannot recognize the identity associated with that ID. You can delete your information entirely at any time in the settings menu. If you are interested, you can decide to transfer your information to a doctor or therapist via an SSL interface (end to end encrypted).

No. Along with the evaluation, you will receive a recommendation for action. If there are no signs of depression, Moodpath does not suggest going to a doctor or psychotherapist. In the case of a mild or moderate depression, it is also possible to choose medication instead of psychotherapy. The interactive “knowledge” part of the app will show you which possibilities for treatment exist and what their advantages and disadvantages are.
You will have the opportunity to download your results as a doctor’s letter in the form of a pdf-document. This pdf can be sent to a doctor or psychotherapist or brought to an initial appointment.
No. Moodpath does not replace psychotherapy. Moodpath wants to help those who are unsure if they are in a condition that is in need of treatment. The evaluation after the screening gives more certainty about the mental health of the user. Anyone with symptoms of depression will be encouraged to find professional help. We also offer information about the existing types of professional help in the interactive “knowledge” segment.
As a doctor or psychotherapist, the reliable data collected during the screening will be an asset for you. This data is based on three daily sets of questions, asked in the daily life of the patients. Moodpath generates an automated clinical report for you. This pdf document informs you about the symptoms that have been confirmed. It also includes recommendation regarding which further examinations make sense for differential diagnoses. Furthermore, we are currently developing a software solution for doctors and psychotherapists. Please sign-up if you want to stay up to date on new developments regarding that solution.
